Her father is Seymour Handler, a Used car dealer, and her mother is Rita Handler (who died of cancer). She has three brothers Chet Handler (died), Roy Handler, and Glen Handler, and two sisters Sydney Handler, and Shoshanna Handler. Chelsea graduated from Livingstone High School, New Jersey in 1993. She has been in a relationship with executive Ted Harbert from 2007 to 2010. She also dated rapper 50 Cent for a couple of months in 2010. Handler began a relationship with actor businessman André Balazs in 2011 and they split in 2013. She began dating stand-up comic Jo Koy in 2021.
